Jamie Raven is a professional magician who was unanimously voted into the magic circle at the first attempt. His performances which include an appearance at Buckingham palace as part of the queens 80th birthday celebrations are part of a new wave in magic, that of the “Psychological illusion”.
His style of modern magic combines classic traditional expertise with psychological illusion using a variety of techniques to predict, suggest and control behaviour in order to achieve the apparently impossible. Recreating a drawing that somebody has made without seeing it, telling somebody a word or a name that they are thinking of, or guessing correctly the outcomes of decisions that are yet to be made. He can also offer you more traditional magic and illusion, for example borrowing a £5 and turning it into a £50, pushing a coin into a bottle and then the bottle through a table, or bending forks and spoons amongst other effects. Rob James is a full-time close-up magician working at events across the UK.

Rob has performed at hundreds of corporate and private engagements in the UK and has been repeatedly hired internationally and for television appearances.

Previous international bookings include the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Dubai and the Magic Castle in Hollywood.

I am a close up magician. I perform mainly with cards, but I also do tricks with coins, pens, forks, spoons, wallets and everyday objects. I also perform mentalism, do balloon modelling for comedy or when I am performing in an environment with children. However, I do not do children magic. Not that I do not like them, but because that an area I am not focusing in at the moment. Maybe later in my career… But I have plenty of friends who are competent in this area.

I recently joined a magician club, the LSM (London Society of Magician), which is the 2nd bigest magician’s club in London (if not in the UK). I passed the audition, mixing comedy and close up magic.

My favourite territory is the pub or parties where I can easily go from group to group, and where people are usually up for a laugh. But I do adapt easily to other environments such as restaurants, night clubs, hotel, weddings, even the street or shops (thinking of the day I performed in the Gadget Shop on Piccadilly circus).

My greatest skill and satisfaction is to bring smiles on people faces and make them having a nice time they will never forget.

Performing in public places means dealing with all sort of people, all ages, all nationalities, all genders, all states . I can also perform in French, as I am French.

I have professional experience, mainly for private customers, but I perform on a regular basis in pubs and bars. I also performed in village fairs, night clubs, weddings, birthdays…

The Soho Lounge, and the Steam Bar (Hilton Hotel Paddington London) are amongst my customers. Channel 4 has also hired me to appear on one of its forthcoming programs.
